Bodie, the runner-up of Season 22 of NBC’s “The Voice,” will bring his genre-blending sound to The Summit Music Hall, located at 2210 Summit St., Friday, as a stop in his first headlining tour.
Bodie will take the stage for his Columbus show at 7 p.m., alongside openers Keep Warm and Ash Wiseman. The show comes as the singer-songwriter prepares for the release of his upcoming album, “SELLOUT.”
Bodie first gained national attention in 2022 when he auditioned for “The Voice” with The Fray’s “You Found Me,” earning a four-chair turn from the season’s judges — Blake Shelton, John Legend, Gwen Stefani and Camila Cabello. He ultimately finished the season as the runner-up after joining Shelton’s team.
Since his time on the show, Bodie has continued to experiment with his music. Raised in Los Angeles by his parents who were involved in film and stage arts, Bodie said his parents are what helped develop his early passion for music.
“Living in a state that’s so centered around entertainment and performing and art is super liberating and inspiring, so I think it just enabled me,” Bodie said. “But more than that, it was my parents. I had very artsy parents in a very artsy state that really enabled me to be me, and that manifested as being a musician that expresses myself and how I feel.”
Bodie attended Vanguard University in Orange County, California, where he now is on staff as an adjunct professor for the College of Arts & Sciences according to the university’s website.
He said teaching gives him an opportunity to connect with young adults outside of performing. Bodie emphasized the personal
freedom he found in establishing a relationship with his faith.
“I spent a lot of years chasing what seemed to be the right things in my life — later realizing it was more just selfish ambition and pride,” Bodie said.
“I’m in a season of my life now where, if God doesn’t want it for my life, I don’t want it for my life. It’s brought so much freedom and vision for the direction of my life, and I’ve never been more fulfilled and free and at peace.”
The relationship that Bodie said he has developed with his religion in his personal life carries into his music.
“Outside of the music thing, I definitely carry a desire to pastor and lead people within the church and outside of the church — people that love God and hate God — and I think God’s given me certain giftings to make people
feel comfortable to talk about those things, even if they they’re not used to it,” Bodie said. “Anytime I get around young adults, it’s just exciting because the ones that care to talk to me, I’d love to love on and lead by example and encourage.”
Adding to the momentum of his first headlining tour, Bodie has been nominated for New Artist of the Year at
the 57th Annual Gospel Music Association Dove Awards.
“This is definitely the biggest award I’ve ever been nominated for,” Bodie said. “It’s [the] fruit of what I’ve been working so hard towards, and I’m going up against some of my friends who are just incredible, so it’s just an honor to even be in the category.”
Keep Warm will join Bodie as an opener for his Columbus show. The band began in a garage in 2023, initially playing covers before making the jump to live performances. Since taking the stage, the band has opened for notable acts, including Mike Mains & The Branches and Bleach.
For Kevin Campbell, vocalist of Keep Warm, he said playing shows in college towns and cities brings a sense of nostalgia, as he grew up on house shows.
“We all come from different places, different backgrounds, different worldviews and it’s really this beautiful thing to get together and just sing the same song,” Campbell said. “There’s a lot of unity in a world of division found in concerts, and I think college students are the best crowd surfers. They throw the best mosh pits, so we have high expectations for the Columbus show.”
“SELLOUT,” to be released Jan. 29, is an 11-track, alt-rock album, incorporating pop and hip-hop influences,
mirroring the feel of Bodie’s latest single, “IDOLS.”
