The closure of College Road North near the Ohio Union is rerouting campus buses this fall, adding as much as 15 to 30 minutes to some students’ trips around campus.
Campus Area Bus Service — or CABS — routes that previously used College Road are affected by delays through spring 2027.
“Riders are encouraged to track CABS buses in real time using the Ohio State app and allow additional time for travel on and around campus,”? Nicole Holman, Ohio State’s associate director in marketing for administration and planning, said.?
The increase in transportation time is due to a high volume of traffic, Holman said.?
“When roads are closed, vehicles and buses must be rerouted to surrounding streets, increasing traffic volumes on those roads and potentially slowing travel through the area,” Holman said.?
Holman said students can best navigate the change through planning ahead.
“Weekday campus occupancy levels, major events and weather can also affect the flow of campus traffic,” Holman said.
With College Road North’s stop in front of the Ohio Union fully closed down, buses have been running a route behind their regular schedule so far this semester.?
The delay times can be as large as the route itself Rachel Robertson, student bus operator with Ohio State campus area bus service, said.?
Alternative paths are taken by bus operators to combat delay times that can reach up to 30 minutes,? Robertson said.??
Ohio State is actively monitoring the campus area bus service to improve these delays.
“[Campus Area Bus Service] does a really good job making sure the buses are evenly spaced,” Robertson said.?
Some students said they are experiencing longer wait times than usual, making navigating the semester more difficult.
Rayhona Mamayusufova, a third-year in computer information science, said she has faced such delays.??
“We’ve been on High Street for 15 minutes in the morning,” Mamayusufova said.?
This impacts getting to classes or events on time Mamayusufova said.?
For now, there are various methods of communicating these delays to students.?
Students can stay up to speed through the Ohio State app, social media, the Transportation and Traffic Management website or newsletters Holman said.
